You'll handle the caseload, focusing on patient needs, and offer advice to other departments when necessary. You may also get involved in some research projects within the department.
Here are some of the key things you'll be responsible for:
- You will undertake occupational therapy assessments, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits enabling the patient in all areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
- Work with peers and patients to provide and receive complex and sensitive information concerning patient’s history.
- Recommend special equipment and instruct patients on how to use that equipment.
- Take a 'whole person' approach to each patient's physical and mental wellbeing by considering all their needs – physical, social, psychological and environmental.
- Develop a treatment plan for patients, laying out the types of activities and specific goals to be accomplished.
- Supervise the work of OT assistants, OT students and, where appropriate, support workers.
- Ensure any concerns with or changes to a patient’s care are communicated
- Regularly undertake equipment testing, and ensure the appropriate records are kept up to date.
- To actively participate in clinical audit, programme review and the implementation and analysis of outcome measures
- Administer and manage all patient and budgetary records for the caseload
